The Shock picked up its fifth straight win despite connecting on just 36.2 percent of its field goal attempts as an 8-0 run to close the first half turned a three-point Detroit deficit into a five point Shock lead. A Dominique Canty lay-up gave Detroit a 10-point lead with 15:42 to go in the game, and the Rockers trailed by as many as 14 midway through the period. Cleveland closed to within two points at 54-52 with just under six minutes remaining, but the Shock scored 12 of the next 14 points to put the game out of reach.
Jennifer Azzi led the Shock with 20 points and eight assists as Detroit turned 19 Rockers turnovers into 22 points. The game was marred by three ejections after Cleveland’s Tracy Henderson and Detroit’s Cindy Brown got tangled in front of the Rockers bench. Henderson, Brown and the Shock’s Val Whiting were ejected following the incident.
