Detroit Shock 73, Cleveland Rockers 71
Cleveland – Detroit evened its record on the year at 1-1 as Carla Porter broke a 71-71 tie with 1.1 seconds remaining at Cleveland. Eva Nemcova’s desperation three with no time remaining missed the mark. Detroit led by as many as 18 in the second half and by 11 points with 7:08 to go in the game. A 10-1 run by the Rockers cut the lead to two, and Cleveland took the lead briefly on a Suzie McConnell Serio three-pointer with 1:09 left on the clock.
Korie Hlede tied the game with a 17-foot jumper with 49 seconds to go setting up Porter’s late-game heroics. Merlakia Jones paced the Rockers in scoring with 24 points, as Cleveland connected on 51.1 percent of its field goal attempts and 72.7 percent of their three-pointers. However Cleveland missed 7 of 22 free throws and committed 23 turnovers which Detroit turned into 24 points.
