Detroit Shock 75, Charlotte Sting 69

Detroit shot just 38.7 percent on the night, but the Shock still were able to improve to 4-2 on the year by virtue of a 24-10 edge in scoring from the free throw line over the Charlotte Sting. Sandy Brondello led Detroit with 19 points, and Jennifer Azzi’s 18 led a Shock bench brigade that outscored Charlotte’s by a 43-21 margin.

The Sting led by 10 points late in the first half and by six at the break, but the Shock tied the game up at 42 with 5:25 gone in the second period. Detroit took its first lead of the game on an Azzi three-pointer with 8:03 to go. It was the start of a 21-8 run that put the game out of reach for Charlotte.
