Farris Brings Good Fortune to Grosse Pointe South
Grosse Pointe, MI - Detroit Shock forward Barbara Farris continued her support of local community organizations on Thursday, November 11 by stopping by the Grosse Pointe South Girls Varsity Basketball Game to check out "parent night", sign autographs for the faithful and participate in the "big shot shoot-out" at halftime. Several Shock fans were at the game to visit Farris and get her autograph. Fans got to take pictures with and touch the 2003 WNBA Championship Trophy.
Girls from the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball team at Grosse Pointe South High School also were honored at the Shock's September 1 home game vs. Phoenix this past season for their outstanding community work with POINTS FOR PEDIATRICS. The program, established in 2001 by the Grosse Pointe South High School Girl’s varsity basketball team, is designed to benefit needy children and families dealing with cardiology issues at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Since its conception, the program has raised nearly $30,000 through sponsorships that the girls have secured for every point the team scored during the season.
"Knowing that girls like the ones here tonight represent the future of our women's game makes me proud," said Farris during the event.
Senior Annie Dalby hit a big three-pointer in the last two minutes to put South ahead for the first time in the game and they ended up pulling out a victory in their final home game.
