Ruben Diaz Joins the Shock Basketball Academy

Former Channel 8 sports anchor, Ruben Diaz has joined the Tulsa Shock as Team Director for the Shock Basketball Academy. Diaz will focus on developing individual talent and teams in the academy.

"I can't express how excited I am to start this new chapter in my life with the Shock Basketball Academy and the Tulsa Shock,” Diaz said. “Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the game of basketball and how much I love helping kids reach their potential and that's what makes this opportunity so special."

Diaz has worked in television for the last 10 years but now believes he is about to embark on his true passion – helping local youth achieve their basketball dreams.

“Ruben is a perfect fit for our team program,” Shock Basketball Academy Director Joe Crawford said. “His passion for the game and commitment to getting kids to play at the next level is unmatched. We are excited to bring him on board and look forward to an awesome summer with our Shock Hoops (girls’) and Shock Force (boys’) team program.”

Diaz will officially begin his duties in January and will primarily be working out of the Shock Basketball Academy facility at, 8730 E. Skelly Drive (I-44 between 31st and 21st Street). Built in 2004, the facility is a full 84x50 court and includes a party and lounge room, pro shop and a F5 athlete performance training room with high speed treadmill.

“I've had a great ten year run in television and I'll never forget the fun times that came with that,” Diaz said. “As the Shock Basketball Academy Team Director I will be able to help so many more kids reach their basketball dreams.”
