Community Programming






Through the NBA and WNBA Cares, the league, players and teams will earn and contribute $100 million for charity, donate more than 1 million hours of hands-on volunteer service to communities worldwide and build more than 250 places where kids and families can live, learn and play.

The Detroit Shock’s Tip-A-Shock fundraiser benefiting the American Diabetes Association was a fun event for the team and its fans at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Lake Orion. No surprise there - the event has been a favorite of both players and fans since 2002.



The Detroit Shock helped kids get ready to go back to school by purchasing hundreds of back packs filled with supplies for Orchards Children’s Services annual Back Pack Day. This year, the team will donate backpacks at the Shock Community Back to School event on August 20.


The Shock players and staff joined volunteers from Traverse City and Kalkaska on May 29 in front of the Pistons Care Telethon semi-trailer as they helped unload boxes of food for the Women's Resource Center in Traverse City.



The Detroit Shock and The Palace of Auburn Hills have taken steps to become more environmentally friendly. Fans helped create awareness at “Go Green” night at The Palace on Sunday, July 5. Video: Palace Recycling Programs


On June 2, the entire Detroit Shock team spent the evening at Meijer stores across metro-Detroit to tip-off the 2009 season. Click here for the photo gallery.
