Rock and Shock Support March of Dimes WalkAmerica
Shock guard Swin Cash helped tip-off the event by welcoming walkers and thanking them for supporting the cause.
“This is the fifth year Rock Financial and Shock have supported the March of Dimes WalkAmerica,” said Cash, founder of the Cash for Kids Foundation. “This is a great cause that particularly means a lot to us as women.”
Shock players Katie Smith, Elaine Powell, Deanna Nolan, Plenette Pierson and Jackie Batteast signed autographs and passed out Rock and Shock gift bags and towels. Meanwhile, newcomers Ivory Latta, Shannon “Pee-Wee” Johnson, Katie Feenstra and Amy Sanders greeted fans at the event site.
All players and coaches also met walkers at the two-mile mark to pass out water and snacks. Following the walk, the Shock set up inflatable rides for kids to enjoy.
Rock Financial and Palace employees volunteered and walked the eight-mile route to support the cause.
“Every baby deserves a chance at life, and we at Rock Financial are proud to be a sponsor of this important and worthwhile event” said Wendy Kemp Director of Community Relations for Rock Financial. “This event not only allows us to partner with a great organization like the Shock, but also helps raise awareness of all the great work being done by the March of Dimes.”
As part of the partnership between the Shock and March of Dimes, families will receive 300 tickets to attend a Shock game.
About the March of Dimes
Our mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, low birthweight.
