Genisys Honors Detroit Shock Personal Heroes

Auburn Hills, MI, September 11, 2009 – Genisys Credit Union was the sponsor for the Detroit Shock’s “My Personal Hero” Awards that were given out at halftime during four games this season.

“Genisys is humbled to be able to honor these individuals for their dedication, encouragement and contributions to helping others,” said Linda Zabik, Assistant Manager of Public Relations & Community Involvement. “They have given so much and truly are heroes not only to the people they have helped, but to the community as well.”

Latanya and Renne Hall were honored on June 28, 2009 for their fight against heart disease. The Hall sisters, who have been impacted by the widespread heart disease in their family, were inspired to change their lives as well as educate others. They have started by making a lifestyle change of eating healthier and becoming active. Their hope is to encourage others to do the same and take control of their health.

Jeanne Fowler was honored on July 22, 2009 for her assistance with foster and adopted children. She survived one of the most horrendous childhoods, which she outlines in her book, “Peter’s Lullaby,” in honor of her brother who died of childhood abuse. Jeanne’s experiences led her to found “Big Family of Michigan,” an organization helping to make life better for children waiting to be adopted so that they don’t face her same struggles.

Rose Marie Farrar was honored on August 18, 2009 for her involvement with the community. She is a long-time assistant to the Davidson family and was Clarkston’s 2008 Citizen of the Year. Rose Marie has served the community since she was young and currently volunteers with Guardian Angels for Lighthouse, nursing homes, Oakhurst Helping Hands, Open Your Heart and numerous other projects. She also helped to facilitate the food distribution that took place in the parking lot prior to the Shock games this season.

Army Sergeant First Class Trent Wright, his wife, Alisha, and kids, Mollie and Alex, were all honored on September 6, 2009 for their commitment and sacrifice to our country. Sergeant Wright was deployed on Valentine’s Day for a one-year term in Iraq. While there, he is in charge of training Iraqi Drill Sergeants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct high-quality training in accordance with Iraqi Army standards. He is returning to Iraq in a week to finish his one-year term, and will once again have to part with his family who are all heroes in their own right.

This partnership is one of the many opportunities Genisys Credit Union and the Detroit Shock have done together this year to provide quality events for the community.
