Putnam, 18, of Lake Orion, received the award for her involvement in Project Alert, a program teaching middle-school students about peer-pressure. She is also the founder of Adopt-a-Michigan Marine, that sends care packages to soldiers Iraq. Putnam has accumulated more than 500 hours of service. Also a life-long Girl Scout, she earned the Girl Scout Gold Award for her work with Adopt-a-Michigan Marine.
The WNBA Detroit Shock and American Red Cross “My Personal Heroes” Program is a second-year initiative that encourages fans to nominate a person or group from their local community who has gone above and beyond the call of duty and recognize their accomplishments at a Shock home game during the 2006 season.
