William Davis To Receive "Heroes" Award On August 13
Shock Honor Dearborn Heights Lifesaver

AUBURN HILLS, MI - The WNBA Detroit Shock and American Red Cross - Southeastern Michigan Chapter will honor William Davis with The Detroit Shock and American Red Cross "My Personal Heroes" Award on August 13 on The Palace court at halftime of the Shock game vs. Connecticut at 1:30 p.m. A representative of the American Red Cross - Southeastern Michigan Chapter, will present the award to Davis for his quick and effective actions that resulted in saving a girl's life in late July 2006.

Davis, 30, a Pontiac native who now lives in Dearborn Heights and works as a customer service representative for Checker Sedan, found himself in a position to do the ultimate deed for a fellow human being. A young girl, who's name is unavailable, approached Davis from behind as he was taking out his trash on a Friday night, minutes after he returned home from work. The girl, who Davis says is most likely younger than 16 years old, was bleeding badly after being attacked minutes earlier. Her neck was cut badly and she was in danger of bleeding to death saying, "I'm going to die."

Davis immediately took action, finding a cloth nearby that he firmly held to her neck to stop the bleeding. He called 9-1-1 for help and stayed with the girl, keeping her focused on staying alive until the paramedics arrived to take her to the hospital. Thanks to Davis, the young girl is now safe after undergoing several hours of major surgery. Davis does not believe he deserves credit for saving the girl's life, and says he did what he believes everyone should do if put in that situation.

"Above all else, I want her to be happy," said Davis. "I want to be a positive role model to my son and brothers, and let people know it's okay to do the right thing."
