Farris Drops By 2004 Catholic League Girls Basketball Finals

Detroit Shock forward Barbara Farris and the 2003 WNBA Championship Trophy made an appearance at Calihan Hall for the 2004 Catholic League Girls Basketball Finals on Sunday, November 7. She was happy to be part of the festivities and excitement surrounding the event. Several youngsters and families recognized her and visited her for autographs and conversation. Sometimes the conversation involved basketball, but at times was very lighthearted joking around with the kids. "Did you vote?" Farris jokingly asked one youngster who looked to be about 6' 6". "Just turned 18 yesterday," the young man responded. "Oh, you JUST missed it," Farris laughed.

Barbara had the honor of presenting the trophy and medals to the winning teams before the solid crowd at the home of the University of Detroit-Mercy Titans. "It was a huge crowd for high school girls basketball, I enjoyed it," Farris said. "When I talk with young girls who are interested in athletics I try to impress upon them the incredible opportunity they have. There are scholarships out there to go get."

The quality of basketball at the 2004 Catholic League Girls Basketball Finals, was awesome. Truly a positive sign of things to come in women's basketball.
