Postgame Quotes: Eastern Conference Finals Game 2

INDIANA FEVER HEAD COACH LIN DUNN:

(On the game) "The fans are super. I expect them all to be back tomorrow night plus an additional 4,000. We were fortunate to win this game despite our performance on the boards. This was a war and I expect the same tomorrow night. I am pleased that we shot in the 40’s and got to the free throw line. Tully (Bevilaqua) was struggling from the field so we brought in Briann (January). She shot the ball well and got to the free throw line. We feel no outside pressure. We just want to play the best basketball that we can. We made lots of adjustments personnel wise in the off season in order to get to the finals.”

INDIANA FEVER GUARD KATIE DOUGLAS:

(On the game) “We had better ball movement. We did a good job with some of the tweaks from Wednesday night. We were better at not letting them get their defense set. We were moving and getting some shots and getting to the free throw line. We got good support from the bench. They were cheering so hard and provided a great spark. Everybody who came in made a contribution. We had a really big bucket from Moore (Jessica).”

INDIANA FEVER FORWARD TAMIKA CATCHINGS:

(On the game) “We have to stay focused for 40 minutes. We have to do a better job rebounding. We changed a couple of things. One we still need to fix is our rebounding. We started taking the ball inside-out. Tammy (Sutton-Brown) got good position and did a good job for us tonight. I can’t say enough about Briann. I enjoy being on the court with her. She plays with a lot of joy and heart and will be a premier guard in this league.”

(on the possibility of Katie Smith playing tomorrow) “Katie is a warrior. They definitely miss her, her energy, tenacity and experience. I wouldn’t be surprised if she dressed and played tomorrow night.”

DETROIT SHOCK HEAD COACH RICK MAHORN:

(on what two things caused the outcome of tonight’s game) “We turned the ball over. Indiana worked for home court advantage.”

(on how is feels to lose) “It doesn’t feel good to lose. We’re going to watch film tonight and make adjustments. Indiana made some shots and made some free throws. It gets tougher double-teaming and Indiana had a good defensive plan.”

(on Briann January) “She did well. Dribble penetration, passing the ball and took some good shots.”

DETROIT SHOCK GUARD DEANNA NOLAN:

(On the game) "I thought we came out with good energy but we could have had more focus. Turnovers hurt us. We live and die by turnovers and you saw the results. We were not patient enough. We were going to our first and second options instead of waiting for our third a nd fourth options. Our defense wasn’t there tonight. We set up too much instead of fast-breaking.”
