NEW YORK, August 14, 2006 NBA TV will televise up to nine 2006 WNBA playoff games, including first-round and conference finals action, starting with the first game of the Western Conference playoffs between the defending WNBA champion Sacramento Monarchs and the four-time champion Houston Comets on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 9 p.m. ET. The following day, the network will broadcast a playoff doubleheader when the defending two-time Eastern Conference champion Connecticut Sun meet the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. ET followed by the two-time WNBA champion Los Angeles Sparks against the Seattle Storm in a Game 1 Western Conference playoff matchup at 10 p.m. ET.
Prior to tipoff of the WNBAs 10th postseason, NBA TV Insiders, the networks basketball news and information show, will preview the playoffs during a special edition on Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. ET. Hosted by Andre Aldridge, NBA TV Insiders will return the next night with a recap of the first days action and a preview of the Friday doubleheader at 6:30 p.m. ET.
NBA TVs coverage of the WNBA playoffs will compliment up to 14 games on ABC and ESPN2, which will present first round, conference final and finals action, beginning with the first game of the Eastern Conference playoffs between the Detroit Shock and the Indiana Fever on ESPN2 on Aug. 17, at 7 p.m. ET.
In addition to games, NBA TV will provide extensive, all-access coverage throughout the playoffs. Besides NBA TV Insiders previewing each matchup and providing updates on the latest playoff development, NBA TV Daily, the networks basketball wrap-up show, will showcase highlights after each game day and will air postgame interviews with key players and coaches. ESPN2s WNBA play-by-play announcer Linda Cohn and color analyst Doris Burke will preview the upcoming playoffs on a conference call on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Cohn and Burke will be followed by each of the WNBA playoff contending coaches.
