Timeout with Chamique Holdsclaw

Holdsclaw

All-Star and Mystics forward Chamique Holdsclaw was in attendance at Game 3 between the Liberty and Sol during the first round of WNBA Playoffs 2001.

PREDICTION FOR THE WEST:

I predict and I definitely think that L.A. is going to come out of the West. I think they're playing great basketball right now and will be really hard to beat.

PREDICTION FOR THE EAST:

When I look at the Eastern Conference, I look at Charlotte as my dark horse team. I think that a lot of people overlook them, but they're playing great basketball. I think that the New York and Charlotte series will be very competitive. If you ask me, what it boils down to New York has a lot of experience but right now Charlotte is the team with a lot of excitement around them. I'll tell you, I'm following Charlotte and I love them, but I think it's going to be New York and Los Angeles in the Championships.

WHO DO YOU THINK WILL WIN THE TITLE THIS YEAR?

I think New York is going to get the chance to again compete for the Championship and hopefully this time they win. I'm going with the Eastern Conference to win the title!

RANDOM THOUGHT

In New York the fans are very involved and the team plays with a lot of energy.

WHAT DOES NEW YORK NEED TO DO TO BEAT CHARLOTTE?

New York needs to really pound the ball inside. Tari (Phillips), Sue (Wicks) and Tamika (Whitmore) really need to take advantage of their size because I think that Charlotte doesn't have as much depth inside. Tammy Sutton-Brown is playing great and they have Summer Erb, and Shalonda Enis coming off of the bench, but I don't think they have the depth that New York has.

WHAT ARE YOUR OFFSEASON PLANS?

The season has only been over for about a week, so I've been traveling a little bit and have been trying to get around to see some games (like Game 3 of the New York Liberty vs. Miami Sol series which Holdsclaw attended with former teammate and All-Star Indiana Fever guard Rita Williams.) I plan on going overseas in January and working out. I'm not sure which country I'm going to yet, we'll see.
