Postgame Quotes

NEW YORK LIBERTY | MIAMI SOL

Adubato
Head Coach Richie Adubato
"We shifted to the zone, we obviously, had a little bit of difficulty. We were 4-for-16 on threes. The only person that shot the ball well was Crystal Robinson.

We never got in the zone situation, it's hard to get the ball to Tari Phillips. You've got to be able to penetrate and make the perimeter shot and move the ball. We just didn't shoot it very well. It really hurt us bad.

On the break we were 1-for-11. So we didn't keep control of the ball and push it. We turned it over too much. We had 11 turnovers. More importantly, you've got to get easy baskets when people are zoning you, so you've got to push, push down the floor, and get good shots.

They made some big shots. Sam made two big ones. Two fade-away jumpers that were big. It was a New York game the first half, it was a Sol game the second half. So we obviously have to work on our zone attack and do a lot of shooting so we can make the shots when necessary."

Johnson
Guard Vickie Johnson
"Tuesday we'll come out and play hard for forty-minutes. It is very difficult to play a high energy, high intensity defense that we like to play for forty minutes. And when it comes down to the last five, six minutes you have to have it. We have to have it and we have to bring it to another level."

Weatherspoon
Guard Teresa Weatherspoon
"This team is very upset to allow this game to slip away. This is meaningful to us and we can't allow this kind of thing to happen, to let it slip away. We have to finish things off."

Robinson
Forward Crystal Robinson
"We feel like we let this game get away from us. We didn't execute our plays when they threw zone at us. I think when people play zone against us I think it makes us a little lazy, not only on offense but on defense."

MIAMI SOL

Rothstein
Head Coach Ron Rothstein
"We really struggled in making shots. Ruth has had a great rookie season. Her whole career she's been a terrific free-throw shooter and I say her last five games of the season, she's started having some problem. But it's in her head now. I try not to say anything to her. She will come back. She's a great kid and she's struggling with it right now. Even though we only shot 10-23 percent, we got to the line twenty times. If we get to the foul line you cut down the number of times you have to play in trasition and it helps your defense."

Black
Guard Debbie Black
"I think Ruth is just getting better. She's just a rookie and she's learning each game. She has poise of a more veteran player. I think she's going to come in and play better than she played for us tonight. That's what I expect and that's what I hope to see. I think she'll make her free throws. Ruth has been a big factor for us. I think she'll be fine in game three."

Riley
Center Ruth Riley
"If I knew the answer to why I missed so many free throws, I probably would have not missed so many in a row. I think it's just mental."

Sam
Forward Sheri Sam
"Crystal is a good friend of mine. That's what makes it fun out there: When you can go back and forth with each other. It was a tough 30 minutes. My teammates stayed with me, my coach stayed with me, telling me just to stay with it."
