SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Kedra Holland-Corn's first shot felt good, and so did the ones that followed.

Holland-Corn scored a career-high 26 points, leading the Sacramento Monarchs to an 87-75 victory over the Utah Starzz.

"It wasn't a matter of me forcing anything," Holland-Corn said. "I took every shot that I had open and they went in."

Holland-Corn shot 8-for-13, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. She scored five straight points after the Starzz cut Sacramento's 16-point lead to 68-61 with 6:02 remaining.

Yolanda Griffith, who leads the WNBA in rebounding, had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Monarchs. The 6-foot-4 Griffith gave up 10 inches to 7-2 Starzz center Margo Dydek. But Griffith was too quick for Dydek, who managed just five points and five rebounds.

Korie Hlede led Utah with 17 points, and Natalie Williams had 13 points and 14 rebounds as the Starzz dropped to 1-4 at home.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Tangela Smith scored a season-high 27 points and made a tiebreaking free throw with 17.4 seconds left, lifting the Sacramento Monarchs to a 69-67 victory over the Utah Starzz.

After a steal, Smith made one of two free throws to put Sacramento ahead 68-67.

After Adrienne Goodson had her shot partially blocked with six seconds left, Yolanda Griffith made a free throw for a 69-67 lead.

Goodson, who scored 14 of her season-high 20 points in the first half, couldn't get a shot off in the final 4.1 seconds.

Griffith had 20 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Monarchs, who won their third straight and seventh in eight games.

Margo Dydek had 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks for the Starzz, who have lost two in a row. Slowed by second-half foul trouble, Natalie Williams finished with 11 points.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Jennifer Azzi scored 17 points and had eight assists as the Utah Starzz snapped a two-game losing streak with a 69-57 victory over the Sacramento Monarchs.

Margo Dydek had 10 points and 14 rebounds while Natalie Williams added 12 points and eight rebounds as the Starzz avenged a 69-67 loss to the Monarchs in Sacramento last Thursday.

Yolanda Griffith led Sacramento with 18 points and nine rebounds. Kedra Holland-Corn scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half for the Monarchs, who lost for the first time in three games.

The Starzz used a 14-0 run in a span of 5:17 to build a 36-28 lead at halftime. The Monarchs got back-to-back 3-ponters from Holland-Corn early in the second half to close within 42-41.
