EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS GAME 2 As part of the WNBA.com Postgame Show presented by IBM, NBC analyst participated in a live chat following the Sting's Game 2 win over the Liberty in the Eastern Conference Finals. Here's what Meyers had to say:
Liberty#23 from dyn.optonline.net at 4:00pm ET
Ann Meyers at 4:01pm ET It was exciting. It was fun. Those are the games where you hate to see anyone lose because they played so hard. Amanda from visuallink.com at 4:01pm ET What do you think the difference was for Charlotte today? Ann Meyers at 4:02pm ET Good question. The difference for Charlotte I thought was their defensive rebounding. It limited NY to just one shot. And the Liberty's offense wasn't getting the kind of shots that when they had that run and New York was playing tough defense at that time too. With Charlotte getting the defensive rebounds, it enabled the Sting to get more possessions and Andrea Stinson had a terrific second half. She had 7 rebounds in the second half. She had seven assists in the first half. She had, I think 14 points in the second half. And they were clutch shots; they were big time plays. Libs Will Be The Champs from dyn.optonline.net at 4:03pm ET What are some key things do you think the Liberty will have to do if they want to win tomorrow? Ann Meyers at 4:05pm ET They need to come out like they did against Miami in the third game. They have to play where everybody's involved. Vickie Johnson had a very solid game. Crystal Robinson has to continue to hit big shots. I think Tari Phillips really got handcuffed in the second half of this game. She was 2-4 in the first half; she started out very active in the second half but then had trouble getting the ball. I give credit to Charlotte as far as defense is concerned. NY is going to have to do a better job of getting Tari Phillips involved from start to finish. Teresa Weatherspoon didn't score tonight, whereas she had 10 points in the first game. Adubato did a lot of substituting too. A lot of it had to do with the fact that they were playing back to back games. Amanda from visuallink.com at 4:05pm ET A surprise for New York during the playoffs has been the play of Andrea Nagy. She had an excellent game again today. What do you think about her play, and Richie Adubato's choice to give her playing time? Ann Meyers at 4:07pm ET I liked how she has been productive in her solid minutes of playing. Teresa Weatherspoon has an injury to the right hamstring, a high hamstring pull. Now she plays with a lot of intensity. She created I thought in the second half a great run for the Liberty with causing some turnovers on the defensive end, and getting her team back into it. Nagy, her ability to handle the ball and to penetrate give the Liberty a different look. And so much depends on tomorrow's game on what the Liberty are doing well and who's going to get minutes. Amanda from visuallink.com at 4:07pm ET Why do you think Becky Hammon has not been playing very much during the playoffs? Ann Meyers at 4:09pm ET Matchups. Obviously it's important that Becky comes in and scores big time. That's her role. What happens on the defensive end, and she's a tenacious player, but it seems that the teams that the Liberty are matching up in the playoffs against, that Hammon is not a true point guard in handling the ball so to come in for Spoon or Nagy and size-wise she matches up with Staley. But Staley is so crafty. Size-wise it's difficult for Hammon to match up with the other Charlotte players. Then they go big with Feaster and Stinson. Not only big but strong. It creates a situation so that Adubato has to find a situation for Becky to do what she does best. Lynne from comsys.net at 4:10pm ET Do you feel that Charlotte now has the confidence to beat NY at home again tomorrow? Ann Meyers at 4:11pm ET Charlotte has always had confidence in themselves. To reach the Eastern Conference Finals in a season where nobody had faith in them, going 1-10 to start the season, this is a team that has always stuck together. The chemistry is good, players in positions have accepted their roles and they have a coach that believes in them. They have never doubted themselves. The fact that they've beaten Cleveland in the third game of the first round of the playoffs gives them tremendous confidence to win at Madison Square Garden.
