FAN FORUM: A LIBERTY FAN TALKS ABOUT SUE WICKS

Even though the Liberty suffered a loss on Sunday at the hands of the Miami Sol, New York fans still had something to cheer about.

A N.Y. fan favorite, and my personal favorite WNBA player, Sue Wicks, was presented with the 2001 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award presented by American General Financial Group before the start of the game. I was one of the 14,000-plus on their feet cheering and screaming “Suuueeeee!” A sight and sound that is very familiar at the Garden, where we appreciate Sue and her passion for the game.

If you're in front of the Garden before or after a game, chances are you'll see Sue as she stops to sign autographs and pose for photos with the fans. Inside, on the court, you'll see Sue diving on every loose ball, hustling after every rebound, giving 150 percent in every game.

She's the first to congratulate a teammate or extend a hand to a fallen opponent . Sue is what an athlete should be – a role model who appreciates the fans as much as they appreciate her. We are the ones that have been honored by her.

Congratulations Suuuueeeee!

Kathy King lives in Brooklyn and has been a fan of the Liberty from the day she first read about the WNBA being formed.

King says of the WNBA, “there is a sense of family among the players and among the fans wherever you go.”

In addition to supporting the Liberty, she has traveled around the country to see WNBA games and teams in other cities.
