EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS GAME 1

Postgame Chat with Richie Adubato

As part of the WNBA.com Postgame Show presented by IBM, Liberty head coach Richie Adubato participated in a live chat following the Liberty's Game 1 win over the Sting in the Eastern Conference Finals. Here's what Adubato had to say:

LaVonda Johnson from proxy.aol.com at 9:45pm ET
What did you say to the team in order for them to play with such an urgency in the final minutes?

Richie Adubato at 9:47pm ET
I wanted to make sure we kept our composure and poise and confidence. When you get down, you have to score in bunches and execute your offense. It was a very physical game. Phillips had the flu -- I gave her a break in the first half and couldn't take her out in the second. Machanguana was after her and was taking her out of the low post. She hung in there and had a great game. Wicks gave us a lot of hustle off the bench. It was a team effort, the last part of the game we defended a lot of their plays. Staley and Feaster played well and were difficult.
Kathy from proxy.aol.com at 9:47pm ET
What do you think the turning point was? I thought it was when Teresa Weatherspoon forced the offensive foul

Richie Adubato at 9:48pm ET
Crystal's big shots No. 1. Then we got a couple of turnovers with the press which allowed us to score quick baskets and get back in the game. They have offensive firepower everywhere.
Wynter from proxy.aol.com at 9:48pm ET
Coach, did this team ever get down or think that the game was over? Did you?

Richie Adubato at 9:49pm ET
Not really. Our team is capable of making people play up-tempo and faster than they want. When the momentum switched, then I thought we had a good chance. You just have to emphasize that you have a lifetime.
Becky from cli.ptd.net at 9:49pm ET
How does the Liberty feel about this big game on Sunday? Do you feel confident? I believe in your team as a young girl. GOOD LUCK LIBERTY!

Richie Adubato at 9:50pm ET
Thanks! We understand that they were able to go to Charlotte and win there. They are terrific. We were lucky to be able to win. They fight, they hustle, and they're good inside. We have to protect our home court.
nate_liberty4ever from pacific.net.sg at 9:50pm ET
what did you feel like when the final buzzer sounded?

Richie Adubato at 9:50pm ET
I felt relieved. I thought except for a couple of big shots we could have lost. The last couple of years we've been in a situation where we lost Game 1. We'll be happy to go home tomorrow.
Wynter from proxy.aol.com at 9:51pm ET
This team's defense never seems to fail. C-Rob played great on Stinson and held her down for most of the game. C-Rob for MVP! Was the defensive pressure a key point b/c it worked against Miami in Game 3? Go NY, good luck!

Richie Adubato at 9:51pm ET
It was, we played good defense down the stretch. That was a team effort, but good work by Sue and Tari inside. It was an individual effort and a team effort.

Richie Adubato at 9:52pm ET
Thanks to everyone who sent in some great questions! We're sure happy to be heading home with a win under our belts and please join us again for Game 2! Thanks for your support.
