Born Jawann Kelley Gibson on November 7, 1976, in Easton, Maryland
Served as spokesperson for the Houston Comets Speakers Bureau during the 2002-03 offseason
Gibson receives 2003 WNBA Offseason Community Assist Award
Prior to the 2002 season, worked in the WNBA Player Job Internship Program, interning in the Philadelphia 76ers marketing & promotions department and learning what goes on behind the scenes to support a professional basketball team
Had her jersey No. 32 retired at Easton High School after a tremendous career, including a record 2,220 points and 1,008 rebounds
Once tallied a school-record 53 points in a single game
Reached the 1,000-point plateau as a sophomore and led her squad to two state championship titles
Named Eastern Shore Player of the Year as a senior in high school
Also participated in track for a year where she was second in the state in the high jump and third in the long jump
Majored in kinesiology at the University of Maryland Best advice she ever received was, “If you have a dream, don’t give up on it, no matter what happens.”
Had a street named in her honor in her hometown of Easton, MD, in April 2001
