Background

The Sparks were surprised when former Oklahoma Sooner Ashley Paris dropped to their second pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft. Regarded as one of the top 15 players in the draft, Los Angeles picked up the twin sister of Courtney Paris knowing she was a steal at the 26th pick.

The 6’3” forward averaged 12.5 points and 9.6 rebounds while helping lead her Sooners to a Final Four appearance. She recorded 17 double-doubles on her way to first-team All-Big 12 honors in the 2008-09 season. Paris is only the fourth player in Oklahoma history to score more than 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in her career.

Piedmont, Calif., native was named a USA Today All-American in all four years at Piedmont High School. She averaged 18 points, 4.5 assists and 13 rebounds per game as a senior, and was a 2005 Parade Magazine first team All-American. She scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds in the 2005 McDonald’s All-American game.

Paris played with her twin sister Courtney at Oklahoma University. Courtney was picked 7th overall in the draft by the Sacramento Monarchs.
