The USA Basketball Women’s National Team defeated Senegal, 87-67, on Saturday in their Group D action on Day 1 of the FIBA World Cup in Tenerife, Spain.
Elena Delle Donne came off the bench to lead USA with a game-high 19 points and 6 rebounds, while Nneka Ogwumike recorded 16 points in the win. Offense was balanced, as A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart additionally posted in double figures, with the team shooting 53 percent from the field.
First quarter action was back-and-forth, as the US team held an 18-17 lead, but broke away in the second quarter with a 45-31 score at halftime and never looked back.
