| Liberty Stumble on First Leg of Trip
Triple overtime catches up with New York: When the New York Liberty outlasted the Indiana Fever in the longest game in franchise history Wednesday, it gave them an emotional boost heading into their five-game West Coast trip, which spans 11 days, four states and two time zones. They carried that emotion into the first stop on the trip, opening a 38-30 halftime lead over the Sacramento Monarchs, who were just 3-3 at home. But emotional energy lasts only so long, and tired legs coupled with a cross-country flight appeared to catch up with New York in the second half, when it surrendered 52 points. The Liberty had poor starts to both the third and fourth quarters and made just 11-of-24 free throws overall - a clear sign of fatigue - as the Monarchs held on for an 82-78 triumph. Things don't get any easier for the Liberty, who are jockeying with Indiana and Washington for one of the Eastern Conference's playoff spots and still visit Los Angeles, Seattle, defending champion Phoenix and San Antonio on their trek.
