Jackson's 47 Not Enough for Storm

Mystics Triumph in OT Despite Record-Tying Performance: One of the league's brightest stars had her greatest performance, but basketball is a team sport. Seattle's Lauren Jackson rained down a career-high 47 points and snatched 14 rebounds Tuesday, but Washington used a balanced attack in its 97-96 overtime home win. The Mystics' Alana Beard (27 points), Monique Currie (23) and DeLisha Milton-Jones (22) together outweighed the MVP front-runner, who tied the all-time WNBA scoring mark (Diana Taurasi - August 10, 2006) and forced the extra period with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds of regulation. Jackson has now tallied 20 points and/or 10 rebounds in each of her last 14 games.

Something's Gotta Give: The Shock and Sun rolled into Tuesday's nationally televised showdown each winners of six straight games. Detroit left the Nutmeg State with its streak intact after a 92-88 win. Deanna Nolan posted a career-best 36 points and seven assists to outduel point guard counterpart Lindsay Whalen, who notched a career-high 33 and seven. The victory, combined with Indiana's overtime loss against San Antonio, gives the Shock a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"If we had won, I probably would go out until 6 o'clock in the morning and celebrate, definitely, but I am going home."

    FILLING THE BOX STORE
To say Ticha Penicheiro isn't much of a scorer would be an understatement. Despite being a full-time starter, she averaged just 5.2 points over her first 21 games of the season, less than not one, not two, but three Monarchs reserves. She'd surpassed that total even before scoring 11 of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, finished 6-for-6 from the floor, and added four rebounds, six assists and three steals for good measure in Sacramento's 67-59 win over the visiting Sparks.
    COMING UP CLUTCH
Crunch-time play is what the Silver Stars were looking for when they picked up Becky Hammon from the Liberty, and she's helped San Antonio to the West's top record. Hammon sank two free throws with 16.4 seconds left to force overtime and then dished out two assists in a 10-2 extra frame that led to a 71-63 win in Indiana. The Silver Stars are now 7-2 against the East and 9-4 away from the Alamo City.
