All-Star Flavor in Phoenix

Mercury, Storm Dial From Long Distance: Tuesday's matchup between the Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury wasn't part of WNBA All-Star Weekend, but with the amount of star power on the floor you might have thought it was the main event. In a game that featured Western Conference All-Stars Penny Taylor, Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter from the Mercury and Lauren Jackson from the Storm (Sue Bird was selected as a starter but is out with a knee injury), the two teams put on one of the better shooting displays from beyond the arc this season. But behind Taylor's season-high 32 points, it was the Mercury who came out on top in an 89-79 decision. Taylor made four of her five three-point attempts as Phoenix went 8-of-15 from beyond the arc. Jackson scored a game-high 33 on 11-of-18 shooting from the field, including 4-of-6 from long distance, for Seattle, which shot 10-of-22 from three-point land.

Douglas, Sun on Fire: Katie Douglas picked up right where she left off in Sunday's WNBA All-Star Game. After scoring a team-high 18 points off the bench for the Eastern Conference, Douglas tallied 15 of her 22 points in the second half as she guided the Sun to their fourth straight victory with an 84-79 triumph over the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday night. Douglas, who shot 6-of-8 from the field in the All-Star Game, went 8-for-16 from the floor to help Connecticut move within six games of the first-place Indiana Fever. Seimone Augustus, who couldn't defend her Dribble, Dish and Swish Challenge title during All-Star Weekend, led the Lynx with a game-high 24 points.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
“We need to carry the momentum from our West coast road trip and continue to get better every day. We're in fourth place right now, so we need to try to move up and keep that four spot. We need to take it one game at a time and continue to get better as a team.”

-- Connecticut's Lindsay Whalen, when asked what the team's plans are for the second half of the season in Tuesday's chat on the Sun's official website.
