Who's Going to D.C.?
All-Star Starters Revealed:
The WNBA announced the results of fan voting for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star starters. Sue Bird received the most love from the public, garnering 128,838 votes, but will be unable to start her fifth All-Star Game because of a nagging knee injury, which will require surgery later this week. Bird will spend the All-Star break recuperating for the Storm's stretch drive. Seattle's Lauren Jackson, Phoenix's Diana Taurasi, San Antonio's Becky Hammon and Sacramento's Yolanda Griffith round out the West squad. Three members of the defending champion Shock will start for the East. Kara Braxton, Cheryl Ford and Deanna Nolan will be joined by Indiana's Tamika Catchings and Anna DeForge. The WNBA All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, July 15 in Washington D.C.

Welcome Back, Dee:
Diana Taurasi returned to the Mercury lineup Tuesday after serving a two-game suspension. Taurasi struggled a bit from the floor, finishing only 6-of-16 from the field overall and 1-for-7 from 3-point range, but managed to score 15 points in a wire-to-wire 95-79 win in Minnesota. Instead of controlling the offense, Taurasi facilitated it by dishing out nine assists, which tied her career high. Her deference paid off thanks to a 26-point performance from Penny Taylor. Phoenix also got a season-high 16 from Kelly Miller. Taurasi rounded out her stat line with six rebounds and two blocked shots.

"The doctor kind of broke it down for me. I do have national team responsibilities beyond this, and to be honest, if I had nothing after this I’d try to gut it out, but the doctor said it could get worse. Playing on it one extra week wasn’t the end of the world, but playing on it two or three months could have been a problem."
-- Seattle's Sue Bird, who will miss the All-Star Game because of arthroscopic surgery to remove loose particles in her left knee. The surgery is scheduled to take place on Friday. Bird said she expects to miss four or five games recovering.

The Silver Stars were once again without Becky Hammon. But, thanks to the play of Sophia Young, they hardly missed Hammon's All-Star numbers. Against the Mystics on Tuesday, Young scored 20 of her season-high 24 points in the second half of an 84-79 road victory. Young shot an efficient 9-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the foul line. San Antonio also got a boost from Erin Buescher, who added 19 points and seven boards.

Lauren Jackson continued her torrid pace this season with yet another strong performance. The league's leading scorer held up her end of the offensive bargain in Seattle's 90-71 home win over Los Angeles. She scored 23 points and drained four of her seven attempts from behind the 3-point arc. And while her five rebounds were uncharacteristically lackluster thanks to teammate Wendy Palmer snatching 11, she more than made up for it with five blocks.
