Perkins Explodes on Sacramento
Guard's Career Night Helps Sky Rain on Monarchs:
It's safe to say Jia Perkins has never really be considered a true scoring threat. With a career high of 21 points, a 5.9 points per game average this season and only one game started, Perkins was flying under the radar heading into her matchup against the Monarchs. But after her performance Friday, Perkins may never be underestimated again. The 5-foot-8 guard out of Texas Tech errupted on Sacramento, going an astonishing 17-of-24 from the field and 5-of-7 from 3-point range on her way to a career-best 39 points and 10 assists. With the Sky down three late in the fourth, Perkins drilled a trey to send the game into overtime. Then facing a two-point deficit with 1.6 left in the first extra period, Perkins setup Candice Dupree for a layup to send the game into double-overtime. Perkins then added six points in the additional period to power Chicago to a 92-84 double-overtime win. "She (Perkins) probably could have turned around and threw the ball up and it would have gone in," Monarchs' forward Adrian Williams said. "She made some tough shots."

Augustus Outduels Hammon:
The spotlight was on San Antonio on Friday as two of the league's top guards faced off. With Becky Hammon leading the Silver Stars to a hot start and Seimone Augustus guiding the Lynx to three wins in the past four games, the stage appeared set for a tight-knit battle two WNBA superstars. However, Augustus had other things in mind. Although Hammon scored 10 points in the second half to keep the contest competitive, Augustus went a scorching 12-of-19 from the field on her way to 29 points to push Minnesota past San Antonio, 77-66. Nicole Ohlde scored 14 points and rookie Lindsey Harding added 11 to help give the Lynx their fourth win in their past five games. Hammon finished with 12 points in the defeat.

"We wanted to give you all facets of the pro game. We have already blown a 17 point lead and we wanted to come back from being down 15 or 17."
-- Connecticut's head coach Mike Thibault, after the Sky recovered from a 15-point deficit to defeat the Fever, 72-67, on Friday.

After opening the season with the worst start in franchise history (0-8), the Mystics are finally starting to turn the corner, courtesy of the one-two punch of DeLisha Milton-Jones and Alana Beard. With the Shock, owners of the WNBA's best record, headed into town, Milton-Jones made sure to stuff the stat sheet and Beard remembered to deliver the heroics to keep Washington on a roll. Milton-Jones tallied 19 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks to keep the Mystics in the game and with 13 ticks left in regulation and Washington down two, Beard got the hoop and the harm to lift the Mystics over Detroit, 65-64, on Friday.

Faced with the problem of how to fix their inability to win at home, the last possible solution for the Sun appeared to be a matchup against the Fever, one of the WNBA's best road squads. Early on that seemed to be just the case as Indiana jumped out to an early lead and Connecticut went into halftime trailing once again on its homecourt. However, in the second half Katie Douglas turned the tables. Douglas scored 14 of her 22 points in the fourth quarter as the Sun pulled off the upset, edging the Fever, 72-67, on Friday. "Tonight was a gut check for this team," Douglas said. "To see our character and to see how we could fight through adversity. We kept our composure and found a way to win at the end."
