Hammon Returns to the Garden
Silver Stars Triumph in Star's Homecoming:
Becky Hammon took the court at Madison Square Garden, an all too familiar sight for Liberty fans, but for the first time on Friday she was a member of a different team. Traded to San Antonio in a draft-day deal, Hammon was greeted with cheers from her former home crowd, but that did not prevent her from taking it to New York. The nine-year veteran scored seven of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to go along with six rebounds as the Silver Stars emerged victorious with a 70-63 win over the Liberty in Hammon's return to the Big Apple. "It was nice to come back and a get a win," she said. "It was emotional at the same time." Vickie Johnson, who spent her first nine seasons with New York before signing with San Antonio last year, went 6-of-10 from the field for 14 points.

Sparks Mount Amazing Comeback to Win Battle of California:
Faced with a 19-point deficit entering the fourth quarter, Friday night's game against the Monarchs looked all but over for the Sparks. However, Los Angeles held Sacramento to nine points in the final period and mounted a tremendous comeback, capped by a Sherill Baker free throw with 3.5 ticks left in regulation, to send the game into overtime. After a Sidney Spencer driving layup with 24.3 seconds left in OT forced an additional period, the Sparks took control and finished the Monarchs, 96-88, in double overtime. Taj McWilliams-Franklin tallied 21 points, 10 rebounds and three steals and Spencer finished with 15 points as six Los Angeles players reached double figures.

"It felt good. I probably came out with a little bit of jitters, but I think our team really wanted to win this one for me and Vick (Johnson). I really appreciated their effort and how they came out and played. They played really hard and never gave up."

With her scoring numbers down in the midst of a Sun five-game losing streak and facing a tough matchup against the red-hot Fever, the burden fell on Katie Douglas to turn her team's fortune around. Douglas delivered on Friday as she put Connecticut on her back and dropped 12 of her career-high 30 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Sun to a 78-74 road win over Indiana. The seven-year veteran out of Purdue filled out her stat sheet with eight rebounds and four steals. Teammate Margo Dydek added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Seimone Augustus may have struggled to find her shooting rhythm in the first two quarters of Friday's matchup against the Storm, but it did not stop her from coming up clutch in the second half. Augustus exploded for a 14-point third quarter to keep Minnesota in the game and with the contest tied with 5.2 seconds remaining she drilled a jumper to give the Lynx a 78-76 victory over Seattle. Last season's Rookie of the Year finished with 23 points.
