Tamika Catchings Talks Maya Moore
MINNEAPOLIS – Despite the fierce intensity that has defined the WNBA Finals 2015 presented by Boost Mobile, there is no shortage of mutual admiration, especially between the series’ two biggest stars.
Indiana’s Tamika Catchings and Minnesota’s Maya Moore have not missed a moment to compliment each other both on and off the court.
While Moore has been the biggest star of this series at this moment, Catchings is impressed with how Moore has progressed in her careeer.
“Maya is awesome. She’s absolutely amazing,” Catchings said. “From the first time she got to the league, coming from Connecticut, with all the hype when she got here, she definitely lived up to it, if not exceeded the expectations on how good she could be. But the crazy thing is she can still get better. She’s still young, she’s still got it going on.”
Catchings also noted the impact Moore can have on the WNBA as a whole.
“She’s important to this league because people tune in and people know who she is from following her in college and from being able to see her success here in the WNBA with the Lynx,” Catchings said.
Many have compared Moore and Catchings on the court because they both play at an elite level with relentless intensity. That’s incredible praise for any player. But Catchings says Moore deserves praise for how she handles herself off the court as well.
“She’s just an all-around person that you look at and want your kid to be like,” Catchings said. “Obviously both of us are very faith oriented and our families are really important for us and basketball has been something that we love and have some point have lived for, but it’s the other things too that she has, that people see her and say like ‘oh, that’s Maya’. You’re drawn to her.”
