NEW YORK, NOV. 9, 2005 – The WNBA’s newest franchise, the Chicago Sky, will begin assembling its inaugural season roster on Wednesday, Nov. 16 with the Chicago Expansion Draft.

The WNBA players selected in the Expansion Draft will be announced in Chicago at noon ET. Following the draft, General Manager and Head Coach Dave Cowens and President and CEO Margaret Stender will be available for interviews via a media conference call at 2 p.m. ET. One of the Sky’s draft picks is also expected to be on the call.

Chicago has the right to acquire one player from each of the existing 13 teams. Each of the WNBA teams has designated a maximum of six players who will not be available for selection in the Expansion Draft. In addition, the Chicago Sky will have the sixth pick in each round of the 2006 WNBA Draft.

The Sky joins the Charlotte Sting, Connecticut Sun, Detroit Shock, Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and Washington Mystics in the Eastern Conference. Home games will be played at the UIC Pavilion, located on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In 2005, the WNBA concluded its ninth season with an action-packed WNBA Finals that crowned a new champion for the third straight year as the Sacramento Monarchs defeated the Connecticut Sun. The WNBA Finals on ESPN2 produced significant increases in ratings (+33 percent) and viewership (+27 percent) versus 2004.
