The program honors the league's best overall shooters based on field goal percentage and free throw percentage during the regular season. Bud Light will award $12,500 to each winner, with a portion of those proceeds going to a charity of the players' choice.
Byears led the WNBA in shooting percentage for the entire season, finishing 133-221 from the field for a final percentage of .602. Acquired by a trade during the off-season, Byears made an immediate impact on the Sparks with both her shooting and strong rebounding. Ann Wauters of the Cleveland Rockers finished second by shooting .569, followed by Yolanda Griffith of the Sacramento Monarchs (.522), Rushia Brown of Cleveland (.518), Tari Phillips of the New York Liberty (.507) and Maria Stepanova of the Phoenix Mercury (.507).
Baranova missed only five free throws all season (66-71), tallying an impressive .930 free throw shooting percentage to lead
the league. Baranova returned with an All-Star season this year after missing the entire 2000 WNBA season due to a torn ACL.
Allison Feaster of the Charlotte Sting finished a close second with a .921 shooting percentage, followed by Jennifer Azzi of
the Utah Starzz (.917), Janeth Arcain of the Houston Comets (.900), Katie Smith of the Minnesota Lynx (.895) and Dawn Staley of the Charlotte Sting (.895).
The Bud Light Shooting Champions program is part of Bud Light's $100,000 commitment to the WNBA players. In addition to the $25,000 awarded to the Bud Light Shooting Champions, Bud Light also will award cash prizes to the players on the All-WNBA First and Second Teams presented by Bud Light. Each first team player will receive $10,000, and each second team player will receive $5,000.
