Race to the MVP: Week 9

Race to the MVP is WNBA.com’s weekly feature where we evaluate who’s getting closer to that coveted crown.

Maya Moore is back on top after a hot week with two 30+ point games and leading the Lynx to three wins in a row.

#1
MAYA
MOORE

LAST WEEK: #2

Maya Moore regains her No. 1 spot after putting up two 30+ point games in a row (and one 26-point game) and leading the Lynx on a three-game winning streak. Maya also had two double-doubles to top it off. She is currently leading the league in scoring with 23.7 points per game.

#2
DIANA
TAURASI

LAST WEEK: #1

Although Taurasi took a back seat to Maya Moore again this week she isn't slowing down by any means. Though her scoring dwindled, she still helped lead Phoenix on a franchise record winning streak of 10 games. She's averaging 18 points per game which puts her in at number five in the league, but her assists (6.0 per game) put her at second in the league and that's a testament to how Taurasi, a true leader, really contributes to this team.

#3
ANGEL
McCOUGHTRY

LAST WEEK: #4

Angel McCoughtry has helped lead the Dream to the best record in the East. This week she really shined on offense scoring 22, 11, and 33 points. Her 33 points and 10 rebounds helped Atlanta to an 81-79 victory over Chicago, increasing the Dream's winning streak to four.

#4
CANDACE
PARKER

LAST WEEK: #3

Candace Parker is still up there in the ranks in almost every category. She is No. 4 in points per game, No. 6 in assists, No. 5 in blocks, and No. 2 in total efficiency ranking. This week, her numbers were slightly down, but she helped LA to two wins.

#5
BRITTNEY
GRINER

LAST WEEK: #7

Brittney Griner continued her stellar sophomore performance through this week by scoring in double digits every night and contributed six blocks and 10 rebounds against Chicago. She has helped see Phoenix through their longest winning streak ever.

#6
LINDSAY
WHALEN

LAST WEEK: #8

Lindsay Whalen also helped lead her team on a winning streak -- the Lynx have won their last threein a row. While her scoring was solid, her assists really powered the Lynx offense (she had five, 10 and seven). She is now ranked third in the league in assists per game and has the second highest assists-to-turnover ratio -- the sign of a true floor general.

#7
SKYLAR
DIGGINS

LAST WEEK: #5

Skylar Diggins continues to put up impressive numbers for the Tulsa Shock. This week she had 23, 21, and 16 points and a remarkable 12 assists versus Minnesota. Unfortunately, Tulsa is struggling in the win column. If Tulsa can turn their season around after the All-Star break, we could see Skylar climb back up.

#8
ERIKA
dE SOUZA

LAST WEEK:
#10

Erika de Souza is making her way back up this ladder thanks to her solid defensive performances and offensive contributions that helped carry Atlanta to the second best record in the league. She is currently number three in the league for rebounds and number two for blocks.

#9
TINA
CHARLES

LAST WEEK: #6

Tina Charles had two below average games this week (although she did score 20 points against Los Angeles). And even though Charles is still No. 6 in points and No. 5 in rebounds, New York hasn't found a way to turn those stats into consistent wins.

#10
ELENA
DELLE DONNE

LAST WEEK: #9

Elena Delle Donne continues to receive treatment for Lyme Disease. Thus far she has missed seven games and the Sky are 2-5 without her.

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR

Tamika Catchings

Tamika missed the first 17 games of the season, but has made an immediate difference upon her return to the Fever leading them to two wins in the last 3 games and even hit a game winning shot.
