STING GUARD HELPS TEAM TO THREE WINS

NEW YORK, Aug. 13 -- Charlotte Sting guard Andrea Stinson was named the final WNBA Player of the Week for the 2001 season for games played Monday, August 6 through Sunday, August 12.

Stinson averaged 18.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in three victories for the Sting, which extended Charlotte's winning streak to a team record-tying six straight.

In a 65-60 victory over Washington on August 6, Stinson recorded 12 points, six rebounds and seven assists. On August 10, she poured in 21 points to lead the Sting to a 55-53 victory over Eastern Conference leader Cleveland. The next night, Stinson again led the Sting in scoring with 21 points in an 80-60 win over the New York Liberty on August 11. In that performance, the 5-10 guard knocked down 4-of-6 three-pointers and recorded six rebounds.

Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Cleveland's Ann Wauters, Houston's Janeth Arcain, Los Angeles' Lisa Leslie, Miami's Sheri Sam, New York's Tari Phillips, Sacramento's Yolanda Griffith and Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw.
