Jackson Named Player of the Week

NEW YORK, JULY 28 - Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm was named the WNBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, July 21 through Sunday, July 27.

Jackson averaged 25.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.67 steals and 1.67 blocked shots on the week, while hitting 58.3 percent of her field goals, 50 percent of her three-point field goals and 89.5 percent of her free throws.

Jackson has earned Player of the Week honors twice this season.

The three-time All-Star selection is second in the WNBA in scoring (21.0), ninth in rebounding (7.7) and fifth in blocked shots (1.73).

The Storm posted a 2-1 record on the week and are currently tied with the Minnesota Lynx for third place in the Western Conference at 13-10. The 6-5 Jackson began the week by scoring 27 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a 75-65 win over the New York Liberty.

She followed that up with back-to-back double-doubles. The first came in a 29-point home win over the Phoenix Mercury on July 25 when she scored 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds. The second came in a July 26 loss to Sacramento with Jackson scoring 23 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and picking up three steals.

Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Charlotte's Tammy Sutton-Brown, Detroit's Swin Cash, Houston's Tina Thompson, Indiana's Tamika Catchings, Los Angeles' DeLisha Milton, Minnesota's Katie Smith, New York's Vickie Johnson, Phoenix's Lisa Harrison, Sacramento's Ticha Penicheiro, San Antonio's Marie Ferdinand and Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw.
