Seattle's Lauren Jackson Named Player of the Week

NEW YORK, JUNE 9Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm was named the WNBA Player of the Week for games played Monday, June 2 through Sunday, June 8.

Storm to a 2-0 mark on the week. The 6-5 forward ranks fourth in the WNBA in scoring (18.8), fourth in rebounding (9.4) and eighth in blocked shots (1.20).

For the week, Jackson averaged 24.5 points and 13.5 rebounds while connecting on 40 percent (6-of-15) of her three point field goal attempts. In a 70-56 victory against the Sacramento Monarchs on June 3, Jackson scored 22 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked three shots. She followed that up with a 27-point, 14 rebound performance in a 66-57 win over the Phoenix Mercury on June 7.

Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Charlotte’s Andrea Stinson, Cleveland’s Chasity Melvin, Connecticut’s Shannon Johnson, Detroit’s Cheryl Ford, Houston’s Tina Thompson, Indiana’s Tamika Catchings, Los Angeles’ Lisa Leslie, New York’s Becky Hammon, Phoenix’s Adrian Williams, Sacramento’s Tangela Smith, and Washington’s Coco Miller.
