Star center lifted Los Angeles to 4-0 start
Sparks' Leslie Named Player of the Week

NEW YORK, JUNE 2 -- Lisa Leslie of the Los Angeles Sparks was named the WNBA Player of the Week for games played Thursday, May 22 through Sunday, June 1.

Leslie recorded four double-doubles while leading the two-time defending WNBA champions to a perfect 4-0 start. The 6-5 center is averaging a league-best 21.5 points per contest and is tied for second in the league in rebounding (10.8 rpg). She also is tied for second with 2.75 blocked shots per game and is third in the league in minutes (39.0 mpg), while averaging 1.8 assists and 1.75 steals.

In a 77-74 overtime victory against the Seattle Storm on May 30, Leslie led the Sparks with 20 points, 10 rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals while playing all 45 minutes of the contest. Two nights earlier, she played all 40 minutes and led the Sparks over the Lynx by putting up 28 points and 11 rebounds, while connecting on all seven of her free-throw attempts.

Other candidates for WNBA Player of the Week were Charlotte's Kelly Miller, Cleveland's Betty Lennox, Connecticut's Nykesha Sales, Detroit's Swin Cash, Houston's Cynthia Cooper, Indiana's Tamika Catchings, New York's Becky Hammon, Phoenix's Adrian Williams, Sacramento's Yolanda Griffith, San Antonio's Margo Dydek and Washington's Chamique Holdsclaw.

The WNBA tipped off its seventh season with eight sellouts, attendance up 9.5 percent and traffic on WNBA.com up 130 percent. More WNBA games will be telecast nationally than ever before with games airing on ABC, ESPN2, Oxygen and NBA TV, and WNBA game telecasts will be carried in over 183 countries internationally.
