Candace Parker Tops WNBA Most Popular Jersey List for Second Consecutive Year

-- Parker, Leslie, and Hammon Remain Top Three --

NEW YORK, Oct. 1, 2009 – Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker, the 2008 WNBA Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year, continues to have the No. 1 selling jersey based upon sales at the NBA Store in New York City and on WNBAStore.com during the 2009 WNBA regular season. Parker’s No. 3 jersey appears for the second consecutive time at the top of the list.

Parker, who missed part of this season after giving birth to her first child, helped lead the Los Angeles Sparks all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Lisa Leslie, an eight-time WNBA All-Star and three-time WNBA MVP recently closed out her final season in the league after 13 years, holds the second spot. Becky Hammon of the San Antonio Silver Stars rounds out the top three for the list.

This year’s 2009 MVP Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury advances from the No. 6 spot to No. 4 as she tries to capture her second WNBA Championship in three years. New York Liberty forward Shameka Christon moves up the list from no. 7 to No. 5, while 2009 Rookie of the Year and the No. 1 pick of the 2009 WNBA Draft, Angel McCoughtry debuts on the list at No. 9.

The Sparks top this season’s list of the most popular WNBA team merchandise with the New York Liberty and the Seattle Storm coming in at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. adidas is the official oncourt uniform and apparel provider for the WNBA.
