New York Liberty Sign Australian Forward Rebecca Allen

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 21, 2016 – The New York Liberty has re-signed forward Rebecca Allen, it was announced today. Per team policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. She will be eligible to play for New York starting with its game against the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday afternoon.

Allen, a native of Australia who originally signed with the Liberty in February 2015, spent the first 12 games of the 2016 WNBA season training with the Australian Opals, competing for a spot on their 2016 women’s Olympic team, which is yet to be finalized.

“Rebecca Allen is a versatile swing player who can open up the offense with her ability to score from the perimeter, while also committing to the defensive principles that define our team’s identity,” said Team President Isiah Thomas. “Rebecca was eager to return to New York and resume her career in the WNBA, and we are happy to have her in a Liberty uniform.”

Allen saw action in two games for the Liberty last season, before having her rookie campaign cut short due to a right knee injury. She averaged 3.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game for New York.

This past winter, she played for the South East Queensland Stars in the WNBL, appearing in 26 games while averaging 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, knocking down 25 3-pointers and shooting 32.0 percent from 3-point range.
