Moore‘s Thrilling Buzzer Beater First in Finals Since 2010

INDIANAPOLIS – Maya Moore’s bucket at the end of Game 3 puts her in rare company when it comes to game winners in the WNBA Finals. The most prolific of these moments was Teresa Weatherspoon’s halfcourt heave to give the New York Liberty the Game 2 win in the 1999 WNBA Finals.

Since then, there’s only been two buzzer beaters with under three seconds left in a WNBA Finals game. Sue Bird hit a jumper on Sept. 12, 2010 against the Atlanta Dream and then there’s Moore’s game-winning bucket Friday night.

Moore caught an inbounds pass from guard Lindsay Whalen, used an escape dribble and offered up a shot that splashed through the hoop and gave Minnesota the 80-77 win.
