THE RISING POP STAR KICKS OFF N.Y. LIBERTY SEASON WITH A FREE CONCERT
Michelle Branch in Concert Atop MSG on June 2

NEW YORK, May 28, 2002 – Maverick Records rising pop star Michelle Branch is teaming up with the WNBA for a free, live concert on top of the Madison Square Garden marquee on Sunday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. The concert will celebrate the New York Liberty’s home opener (BUY TICKETS NOW) for the 2002 WNBA season, which will tip-off following the concert at 12:00 p.m.

Branch’s appearance will mark the first time ever for a live, public performance to take place on top of the Garden.

In addition, Branch will also appear in a television spot, produced by NBA Entertainment, as part of the WNBA’s “This Is Who I Am” campaign. The campaign, which launched earlier this season and shows who the WNBA players are both on and off the court, will feature Branch performing an edited version of her song “You Set Me Free” that was created especially for the WNBA.

“We are thrilled to have Michelle on hand for this special WNBA event,” said Charlie Rosenzweig, Vice President of Entertainment and Player Marketing, NBA Entertainment. “The excitement she will bring in her performance will surely match the energy the Liberty will bring to the court and to their fans all season long.”

Since the release of her debut album The Spirit Room in August 2001, the 18-year-old singer/songwriter Michelle Branch has been on the move, with appearances on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” and MTV’s “Total Request Live,” where the video for her chart-topping debut single “Everywhere” has become a staple in the Top Five. Branch’s current single, “All You Wanted,” also continues to move up the charts, climbing into a Top Five spot on Billboards Hot 100.

Following the concert, the New York Liberty, now entering its sixth season, will play the home opener at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, June 2 at 12:00 pm against the Miami Sol.
