Lynx Beat Wings Despite Productive Dallas Bench Play


MINNEAPOLIS, MN. – The Wings’ comeback came up short in Minnesota against the defending champion Lynx, as they fell 91-83 despite nine players scoring at least four points and a season-high 35 bench points.

The Lynx used a 17-4 first-quarter run to pull ahead by as many as 15 and take a 31-20 lead after the opening period. Liz Cambage led the way for the Wings, scoring 12 points in the first – the most she has scored in an opening quarter this season.

In the second quarter, the Lynx continued to spread the ball around. Eight Lynx players scored in the first half, led by Maya Moore who scored 12 points on 6-for-14 from the field and put the Lynx in front 51-36 at the break. The Wings were led in the opening half by Cambage with 12 points. Leticia Romero tallied her first career points and led the Wings off the bench with six first-half points.

The Lynx continued to extend the lead, pushing out to a 21-point lead before taking a 76-58 advantage into the final quarter.

The Wings outscored the Lynx 25-15 in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to four points with just under 90 seconds to play, but the team ran out of time as Minnesota picked up a 91-83 victory. The Wings were led by Skylar Diggins-Smith, who scored 17 points and added seven assists. Cambage added 16 points, nine rebounds and career-high five assists.

Kayla Thornton led the Wings off the bench with 12 points on 5-for-7 from the field, including 2-for-4 from long range. Azurá Stevens scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds, while Aerial Powers recorded eight points and four rebounds to contribute to the bench’s huge night.

The Lynx were led by Maya Moore, who scored 21 points and dished out seven assists. Sylvia Fowles recorded a double-double for the second time this season against the Wings with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
