WNBA Fans,
Please know that we are aware that some of you had issues with WNBA LiveAccess this past weekend. We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused and want to assure you that we are working hard to fix the bugs in the system as soon as possible. Please bear with us.
On a related note, we would also like to take this opportunity to further clarify the blackout restrictions that are a part of LiveAccess. Here is the breakdown on the two levels of blackouts:
Local TV: Games that are televised locally will not be available on LiveAccess in the local market. Fans in those markets can watch those games on their local broadcaster. We had some technical difficulties on Saturday with games being blacked out even though they were not being televised in the local market. That issue has been fixed and is now working properly.
National TV: Games that are televised nationally on ABC or ESPN2 will not be available on LiveAccess, but can be streamed through ESPN360.com. In addition, any game that takes place during the national broadcast window will not be available for live streaming on LiveAccess.
An example of this restriction came on Saturday with ABC’s telecast of the Detroit-Los Angeles game, which began at 2:30 p.m. ET. The broadcast window for this game was from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., so the two games that began during that window – Seattle at Sacramento and Washington at Connecticut both began at 4:00 p.m. ET – were not available live. These games will be available on LiveAccess later for on-demand viewing.
Finally, in regards to on-demand viewing, we are working to have the archives available on LiveAccess much quicker than they appeared on opening weekend.
We appreciate your patience as we work out all of the kinks in this new system.
