WHO:   Marion Jones – Member of the WNBA Tulsa Shock

WHAT:   The NBA Store will host Jones for a book signing event to promote her new book, ON THE RIGHT TRACK (Simon & Schuster, Oct. 26). Jones will be on hand to sign books and speak with youngsters from the Harvest Vision Youth Basketball program of Paterson, NJ. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the store.

Currently a member of the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock, Jones is a former world champion track and field athlete. She won five medals at the 2000 Summer Olympics but voluntarily returned the medals after admitting she lied to federal investigators about her use of a performance-enhancing drug.

Jones has sought to take her experiences and encourage others to learn from them. On the Right Track is the candidly told story of how Jones came to grips with the consequences of her actions, and how she found meaning in all of it. What she tells her children and has now applied to her own life is that when you make a mistake, you admit it, you accept the consequences, you move on, you make the wrong a right. She teaches her children and others to take a break and pause before making impulsive and potentially harmful decisions.

A starting point guard on the University of North Carolina’s women’s basketball team that won a national championship in 1994, Jones, who was drafted by the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury in 2003, is living a dream deferred, having joined the WNBA for the first time in 2010 when she did so as the only rookie over the age of 30.

WHEN:   Tuesday, October 26; 4:30-5:30 p.m.

WHERE:   The NBA Store (at Center Court on the lower level) Fifth Ave. at 52nd St.
