Fowles Enjoys Special 30th Birthday

MINNEAPOLIS – Celebrating her 30th birthday was only a secondary reason why Tuesday was a special day for Sylvia Fowles.

Minnesota’s 6-foot-6 center stood tall in Game 2 of WNBA Finals 2015 presented by Boost Mobile as she finished with 21 points and nine rebounds in Minnesota’s 77-71 win over Indiana. For her effort, she was serenaded with a rendition of “Happy Birthday” by the remaining Lynx fans after the game.

“It was awesome,” Fowles said of the moment. “They made me smile. That was the best birthday gift ever.”

Fowles did a commedable job returning the favor as she helped propel the Lynx to a victory that was anything but gift wrapped. Fowles got going early and had 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting in the first quarter. In fact, if you remove the first half of Game 1, Fowles is 16-for-20 (80 percent) from the floor.

“My teammates do a good job of attacking and putting me in the right place at the right time,” Fowles said. “I felt like Game 1, the first half, I was in some (tough) spots and then I was rushing on my behalf. So just relax and calm down and see what was open and it worked for me tonight.”

Fowles, who joined the team in late July, has never won a WNBA championship. She is now two wins away from that as the series shifts to Indiana.
