Euroleague Wrap: Taylor Runner-Up

Penny Taylor was voted Player of the Week in Week 1 and finished as a runner-up in Week 4

Player of the Week honors in Week 4 of Euroleague action went to Australian baller Erin Phillips after she scored 25 points, pulled down four boards, dropped six dimes and swiped six steals in an 89-48 win over TTT Riga. Phillips was a 2010 Euroleague All-Star and she's definitely making her case for another nod in 2011 after shooting 5-for-6 from three-point land in her latest outing.

Penny Taylor was the Euroleague Player of the Week to open up the overseas action this season and finished as a runner-up this week. Taylor's 21 points on a combined 7-for-10 shooting night helped lead Fenerbahce to a 107-84 blowout win over Lotos Gdynia, a club featuring the likes of Minnesota's Monica Wright, last week's Player of the Week honoree. Of the five leading scorers heading into Week 6 of the Euroleague season, three of them hail from the WNBA and all three play for the Phoenix Mercury. Taylor's 19.8 points per game ranks her third overall in Euroleague scoring leaders, joined by Diana Taurasi, number one overall with 27.3 ppg, and DeWanna Bonner, fourth overall with an average of 18.8 per outing.

Taking a look at the boards, free agent Cheryl Ford moves into sole possession of the number one rebounding spot, hauling in an average of 12.5 per game. Behind Ford is 2010 Rookie of the Year Tina Charles with 11.8 rpg, while Bonner and Atlanta's Sancho Lyttle are tied for fourth with 10.5 apiece.

Running things in the assists department is Birsel Vardali, averaging 5.3 apg. It should come as no surprise though when you consider two of her Fenerbahce teammates, Taurasi and Taylor, are each in the Top 5 in scoring.
