Euroleague Wrap: Wright's Week

Minnesota's Monica Wright received the FIBA Europe Player of the Week award in the third week of overseas action. Wright, who is playing in Poland on the Lotos Gdynia squad, scored 26 points on 12-of-23 shooting to give her team its first win of the season. Lotos's record improved to 1-2 on the season and ranks them fourth overall in Group B standings.

Wright's Lynx teammate Rebekkah Brunson was a close second in the Player of the Week running, finishing with 20 points and 11 boards in a 76-67 win over Beretta-Familia, a team that featured the likes of the New York Liberty's Janel McCarville. McCarville finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

Rounding out the Top 3 performers of the week was the Chicago Sky's Sylvia Fowles. Big Syl notched 18 points and 11 rebounds in a monster 82-58 win over Vici, improving Galatasaray's record to 2-1.

Taking a look at the top scorers in Euroleague action, three of the Top 5 possess WNBA ties. Phoenix's Diana Taurasi leads all scorers with 28 points per game, nearly five more points per outing than the league's second-highest scorers, Gospic's Maurita Reid. Indiana's Shavonte Zellous holds down third place with 19.7 points per game for her Riga club, but the lead is only slight over Phoenix's Penny Taylor and her 19.3 ppg for Fenerbahce.

Not only did a Lynx player have the number one and number two spots locked up in the Player of the Week considerations, but another Lynx player is currently leading the league in rebounds. Second-year player Quanitra Hollingsworth is tied with free agent Cheryl Ford for first in the league with 11.3 rebounds per game. Her TTT Riga squad dropped to 0-3 this past week after losing to her teammate Charde Houston's team, Good Angels Kosice, by the final of 77-60.

Yelena Leuchanka (Atlanta Dream/Gorzow): 16 points and 15 rebounds in a 74-61 win over Frisco Sika Brno.
Brooke Smith (Phoenix Mercury/Cras Basket Taranto): 17 points and 10 rebounds against Wisla Can-Pack.
Diana Taurasi Phoenix Mercury/Fenerbahce): Joined teammate Penny Taylor in a win over MKB Euroleasing by adding 26 points and five assists.
Penny Taylor (Phoenix Mercury/Fenerbahce): 16 points and 12 rebounds in an 89-72 win against MKB Euroleasing.
