Johnson
TODAY'S TOP STORY
The Road Home: Vickie Johnson made her return to New York a memorable one as she led the Silver Stars to a 91-78 win over the Liberty. Johnson played her first nine WNBA seasons in New York, but held nothing back Friday night as she scored 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Six Silver Stars scored in double figures as the team shot a season-high 57 percent from the floor.

Pettis
ALSO MAKING HEADLINES ...
You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello: After retiring from the Mercury on Thursday, what will Bridget Pettis do with all of her free time? Actually, it seems that she won't be changing her routine very much at all. Phoenix announced Friday that Pettis, a member of the original Mercury squad in 1997, would become an assistant coach. Pettis assumed her new bench role in the Mercury's
85-83 loss
to the Los Angeles Sparks.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"My heart will always be in New York, I love the fans. The opportunity to play here was great for nine years. The main thing for me was not to beat the Liberty, it was to help my team win. It was difficult playing against Becky Hammon, but I couldn't think about that. I just had to go out and play."

Hammon
FILLING THE BOX SCORE
The New York Liberty's 91-78 loss to the San Antonio Silver Stars certainly could not be blamed on point guard Becky Hammon. The team's leading scorer poured in 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and dished out eight assists. Hammon nailed both of her 3-point attempts and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also added two steals and a blocked shot.

Jones
SHINING OFF THE BENCH
Ashja Jones tied her season high with 16 points off the bench to lead the Connecticut Sun in scoring in the team's 70-64 loss to the Detroit Shock. Jones shot 7-of-13 from the floor and added five rebounds. The 6-foot-2-inch forward has come off the bench for all but two games so far this season.
