TODAY'S TOP STORY
Charlotte Finally Stings Back: Led by Sheri Sam's season-high 19 points and a 14-point, 10-rebound effort from Tammy Sutton-Brown, the Charlotte Sting snapped their seven-game losing streak Tuesday with a 73-67 victory at the New York Liberty, picking up their first road win of the season as well. Fueled by a stifling defensive performance in the first half that held the Liberty to only 16 points, the Sting led by 15 at the break. After dropping the third quarter 34-20, Charlotte returned to its stingy ways in the fourth, holding New York scoreless in the last 2:50 to sure up the win, which also ended the Liberty's hopes for their first three-game winning streak of the season.

ALSO MAKING HEADLINES ...
Mystics Sick With the Fever: The Washington Mystics' bid to go 8-0 at home came up short thanks to the Indiana Fever and a pair of Tamikas. The Fever got 22 points from Tamika Whitmore and 15 more from Tamika Catchings en route to a 74-67 victory at the MCI Center. There now remain three teams in the WNBA unbeaten at home: Los Angeles, Detroit and, appropriately enough, Indiana.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"At the end, when we had a big lead, it was kind of difficult to stay focused."

-- Connecticut center Margo Dydek, on her team's difficulty down the stretch after building an 18-point halftime lead and trailing for only 12 seconds in a 73-68 win over Houston.

Ford
FILLING THE BOX SCORE
Cheryl Ford scored 22 points and grabbed a season-high 19 rebounds as the Shock edged the Silver Stars, 63-59, and extended their winning streak to six games. Of course, Deanna Nolan played a big role in the outcome of this one, too, converting a three-point play with 5.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Kraayeveld
SHINING OFF THE BENCH
Perhaps the lone bright spot for the Liberty in their loss to the Sting on Tuesday was the inspired play of second-year forward Cathrine Kraayeveld. The former third-round draft choice out of Oregon scored a career-high 18 points and tied another career high with six rebounds.
