Leslie
TODAY'S TOP STORY
Leslie's 5K Chase: Lisa Leslie needed only one point to become the first player in WNBA history to hit 5,000 for a career, and the 10-year veteran wasted little time reaching the plateau. She hit a jumper 38 seconds into the Sparks' 105-80 rout of the Silver Stars and proceeded to dominate the Staples Center court like no player since a guy named Kobe dropped 81 back in January. Leslie finished with a career-high 41 -- the fourth highest single-game total in league history -- and hit almost 70 percent of her shots. She was a perfect 2-for-2 from deep, as well, after starting the season just 1-of-5 from the arc. The rest of her line was pretty good, too: 13 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot. Somewhere, Jack is wishing he was courtside for this one.

ALSO MAKING HEADLINES ...
L.A. Won Again, Too: Lost in the Leslie shuffle was the extension of the Sparks' winning streak to eight games. L.A. never trailed and led by as many as 29. The Sparks carried only a four-point edge into the break, but Leslie's 30 second-half points effectively ended things for the Silver Stars. L.A. goes for nine straight against Seattle at home on Wednesday.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING
"We've got two different teams showing up."

-- Charlotte coach Muggsy Bogues, on the inconsistent play of his team after giving up a nine-point halftime lead in a disappointing 71-61 loss to Detroit. The Sting have now lost seven straight.

Pondexter
ROOKIE WATCH
Cappie Pondexter continued torching the league Sunday, going off for 23 more points in the Mercury's 90-77 win over the Sky. She scored 12 straight Phoenix points for a 20-point advantage late in the third quarter. She also finished 6-of-11 from downtown, coming just one trifecta short of the WNBA record.

Nolan
COMING UP CLUTCH
Clutch performances don't usually show up in 10-point wins. After the Shock scored just five in the second quarter to trail by nine at the break, however, things were looking dicey in the Motor City. But Deanna Nolan erupted for 13 points in the third and seven in the fourth to carry her team to a fifth consective win, 71-61 over the Sting.
