Taurasi
TODAY'S TOP STORY
A Dish Best Served Cold: No matter how it was served, revenge probably tasted pretty sweet for the Liberty and Mercury. Both were facing foes who had beaten them twice this season, and both avenged those losses with W's on Wednesday. New York got 23 points from Becky Hammon and 21 more from Shameka Christon in a 72-66 win over Washington. Meanwhile, Phoenix got a 16-point third quarter from Diana Taurasi, who combined with rookie extraordinaire Cappie Pondexter to score 53 in an 87-80 victory in Seattle.

ALSO MAKING HEADLINES ...
Hoosier State Highlights: With an easy 77-55 win over the expansion Chicago Sky, the Indiana Fever improved to a 6-0 at home. Tamika Whitmore scored 17, and Tamika Catchings, Ebony Hoffman and Tan White each pumped in 10.

Road Finally Gets Rough: The Silver Stars came up short in their bid for a sixth straight win away from home. San Antonio fell to 5-1 on the road after dropping a difficult 75-69 decision to the defending champion Monarchs in Sacramento.

Holdsclaw
SHINING OFF THE BENCH
Chamique Holdsclaw is certainly used to the spotlight, but these days, the former All-Star and No. 1 pick is coming off the bench for Los Angeles. On Wednesday, she looked mighty comfortable in her new role, finishing with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals in an effortless 75-55 Sparks win over the Comets.

Jackson
FILLING THE BOX SCORE
Despite a tough loss to Phoenix, WNBA All-Decade Team member Lauren Jackson showed why she's one of the best in the business. The six-year vet and 2003 league MVP touched up the Mercury for a game-high 28 points and 14 boards. She rounded out her line with four assists and three blocked shots.
